NOSTALGIA

What Once Was Childhood

ARTIST STATMENT
Childhood and nostalgia share a curious relationship. Children live in the moment, unaware of the nostalgia that will later shape their adult lives. For us, looking back on childhood evokes memories of simplicity, wonder, and an unburdened existence.
Today, however, children grow up immersed in technology. Their imaginations, once boundless, now seem tethered to tablets, smartphones, and video game consoles. This series of photographs serves as a quiet yet urgent reminder that innocence, simplicity, and creativity are the true foundations of childhood. It is these very elements, experienced in our own past, that make nostalgia so powerful in the present.

Through these images, we witness the raw essence of childhood—untouched by the digital age. Each photograph conveys a feeling, almost like a message to the inner child within us, reminding us that childhood thrives on the most fundamental, simple joys. It is within this nurturing environment that children build the resilience to withstand the overwhelming presence of technology.

The creation of this series was a slow and intentional process. It took nearly a year to find the right subjects—children who embodied the purity and spontaneity I sought to capture. With a neutral color palette and an organic approach, these moments were preserved without makeup, tricks, or excessive staging. The result is an honest portrayal of childhood as it should be: unfiltered, free, and deeply human.
